Seeing and hearing it in English
Being able to watch the television or listen to the radio in English is something that all expats miss; it's also something that can be of great advantage to non-native speakers, introducing them to forms of English that they might not otherwise encounter. Although the enormous amount of information available online goes some way to filling the gap, let's be honest: it's just not the same.
Here, then, is some information on where to find English-language radio and television in the Roudnice area. This listing is by no means comprehensive, so if you would like to see other radio and television options added, please let us know!

Radio
The BBC World Service broadcasts on 101.1 FM from Prague and from 105.8 FM from ฺstํ note that because Roudnice is midway between the two cities, you’ll probably need to be high up in an apartment block to receive on these frequencies. The situation in some of the outlying villages is better. The World Service is also available on shortwave from 0300 to 1800 GMT, but you’ll have to retune during the day. Catch it on 6195 kHz from 0300-0600 and 1700-1800, on 9410 kHz from 0300-0600 and 1600-1800, on 12095 kHz from 0500-0600 and 1600-1800, on 17640 kHz from 1400-1600 and on 15565 kHz from 1500-1800.
Voice of America is available on shortwave at various times as well. Your best bet is probably 15205 kHz from 0900-1700 GMT. Otherwise, find it at 9705 & 17745 kHz from 0900-1200, at 15445 kHz from 1500-1600, at 9825 & 15195 kHz from 1500-1700, at 9700 kHz from 1600-1700 and at 1593 kHz from 2200 0030.
Voice of Russia (formerly Radio Moscow) broadcasts in excellent, British-accented English on shortwave, but is harder to catch. Find it at 603 kHz from 0200-0900 GMT, at 1323 kHz from 0500-0900, at 9890 kHz from 1700-2100 and at 7380 kHz from 1900-2000
CNN Radio is available 24hrs a day via Astra Satellite (although the BBC World Service no longer seems to be).

Terrestrial television
ČT2 broadcasts the European Union’s Euronews channel in English in the evenings, unless something more important like an ice hockey, football or basketball match is on. You can often find it between 1900 and 2000 CET.
ČT1, ČT2 and TV Nova all offer irregular dual-language (Czech/English) broadcasts. Most decent TV listings will show this for the first two channels, but for some reason TV Nova never bothers telling anyone so if you see an American soap opera or older film, it might be in English as well (Baywatch, anyone?).
